3/27 2.0 miles

The weather hasn't been all that great here. A little too cool to get outside and run. I'm ready for summer - who isn't?

Hiking in Barton Creek

Last minute, we decided to go hike in Barton Creek Greenbelt this afternoon. I can't believe we've never been there before. It was very similar to the trails that are in our neighborhood, but on a bigger scale.
This was a falls area where the rock formations were really weird. When we got to this location, we stayed for over an hour. Eventually, Luke was completely wet - down to his socks and shoes. When we got home, I looked it up and this area is called Sculpture Falls.

Our hike route, including the elevation. It was not fun to climb back out at the end of the hike!

Weekly log

Some of these are estimated, because I lost some of my info. I inherited Cass's iPhone 4 a few days ago, and when I restored it to my backup copy it didn't include the last week's worth of recording.

3/12 2.5 miles (1 mile run)
3/12 2.5 miles (hike)
3/16 5.9 miles (bike)
3/17 2.9 miles (1.4 mile run)

13.8 miles

We have friends we know from grad school at MSU whose son is in Japan right now. He's been video blogging on Facebook, but now he's gotten an article on Msnbc.

Logging my miles

3/4 2.86 miles (1.6 mile run)
3/6 4.71 (2.0 mile run)
3/7 2.61 (1 mile run)
3/8 5.34 (bike)
3/10 3.86 (2.03 mile run)

Total 19.38 miles (5.34 miles on bike, 6.63 miles running)

I'm slowly increasing my ability to run/jog. It took forever for me to break a mile - because of breathing issues from my allergies. Now I have to find a balance between running and protecting my knees and ankles from injury.

I'll also mention the elevation where I run. Our subdivision is located on the bluffs surrounding the Colorado River. And our house is at the top of a hill in our subdivision. I usually run mostly downhill toward the river. I start at about 850 ft. above sea level. When I get to my turning around point, it's 550 ft. above sea level. So it's about a 300 ft. drop. Then I turn around and go 300 ft. back up to get home. Nice added dimension to the distance.

Crazy s&*^t that I see

I took on some projects at home this week - painting Luke's room and bathroom and painting some of Logan's furniture. I had to go to Home Depot. A lot.

On Friday about 10:30am, I made a wrong turn and had to go down a side street before turning into Home Depot parking lot. As soon as I turned into the parking lot, I saw a black Ford pickup sitting/parked there like they were exiting. I could see that it was a couple, and they were having a knock-down-drag-out fist fight. They immediately sat up and stopped when they saw me turn in. I drove by really slowly, and I could see the girl's face bleeding. I didn't want to stop right beside them (this *is* Texas, you know), so I drove on past. I nearly stopped, trying to get the license plate number. But I guess the guy realized it and he squealed off.

I turned around and drove down the side street to see if I could tell where they went, but they were long gone. I debated calling the sheriff (we live in the Austin city limits, but our jurisdiction is Travis county sheriff for some reason), but I didn't think I had any actionable information. So I didn't. Jerk.

Week in review

As I sit here eating a brownie with icing on top....

2/26 3.88 miles
3/2 6.56 (bike)
3/3 3.36

13.8 miles

On 2/28 and 3/1, I took the days off from exercise to paint Luke's room and bathroom. I was so sore after those 2 days that I'm sure there was some exercise value to the activity. :)
