This morning at 6:55 am, the U.S. Women's soccer team played the women of England in a World Cup match in Tianjin, China. Cameron's soccer coach told all his players to get up and watch the game. We already had to get up early enough to make it to the soccer fields at 9:30 am, so we Tivoed the game instead and slept an extra hour. :)
I got the girls up at 8 am, and we watched the game while we were eating breakfast. Logan asked me which team was red and which team was white. I explained to her that the U.S. team was wearing white and England was wearing red. Logan replied, "Oh, well then we can be 'for' both teams!" Global thinking instilled in my children, check.
Cameron's soccer team tied 1-1 today. Cameron played keeper the second half, and she didn't let a single goal in. Huge improvements from the first 2 games.
Luke's team played today and won a lot to a little. That usually happens when a team that's been together for a season plays another team that's new, especially in the U6 league. We were the losing team in that scenario a lot last season.
The U.S. Women beat England 3-0 to advance to the semifinals of the FIFA World Cup.

We did soccer in Starkville, and really enjoyed it. However, when me moved to Fairhope, the program was as parent-friendly. Meaning, they expected us to be at things like Saturday morning games/practices. One season of that, and we retired from soccer. In Starkville, all the games & practices were on weekday afternoons after 5pm. That was doable.
Now we have to start thinking about soccer again. Benjamin is such a boy. I don't know what to do with a boy. I never game a damn about "-ball" sports or big construction equipment or taking things apart. I liked to keep things neat & orderly and reading.
Alexandrea is in her second year of band, and is playing at the middle school football games. Benjamin has already expressed interest in wearing a helmet. His mother & I may scar him for life, but we refuse for him to participate in football. He may be scarred, but he'll be alive and in one piece. We want no part in dealing with a sport that could prove fatal, thank you very much.
So, we have to instill a love of soccer while he is very young and keep him in it. Even it it does involve consciousness early on Saturday mornings.
